Dark Dragon Kenpo Set 1 will be available as a set providing the basics and techniques for Yellow Belt through Green Belt. Upon the student achieving what he/she believes to be a good proficiency level, the student will then submit for review, a VHS video of themselves performing all of the techniques (yellow thru green) on another person. The video will be evaluated and if correction is required, then that information will be provided to the student for practice and re-submission of the video. When the techniques are performed correctly, then the green belt and certificate will be awarded signifying their advancement in the system. At that time, the student may purchase the next media in the series. All subsequent belt levels will be done on an individual basis, e.g., the next media to be purchased will be the 3rd degree brown belt, student makes a video, submits same for testing, when successful, the brown belt is awarded with certificate, then the 2nd degree brown belt media is purchased, the requirements for advancement are met, then the 1st degree brown belt media is purchased, requirements are met for advancement, then 1st degree black and so on. As an added benefit, if your training partner wishes to learn the system at the same time as the purchaser, instructions are included as to how your partner can "share" in your learning by paying a test fee. If the student wishes the standard embroidered black belt which has "dark dragon" on one side and "guardian warrior" on the other side in red Chinese calligraphy, the cost will be dependent on embroidery cost at the time of the successful completion of the test. Should the student want something else on his or her belt, the cost will be dependent on what is going on the belt. The standard Dark Dragon embroidered Black Belt, depending on size, is usually in stock. Custom belts will take time to accommodate. Contact us for details. *********International Students please note:********** When submitting your video test, if you video on a format other than VHS or DVD for the United States, such as VHS PAL, we cannot view your test. Thus a conversion fee will be required for us to pay a local company to convert your test so that we can view it. Prior to submitting your test, please contact us to discuss this potential problem and additional fee. Extra techniques will be available to purchase and learn that we call Freebee Techniques. Other items will be available for purchase such as our notebook that has our techniques written out as well as other information. The techniques are placed in color coordinated paper in a clear sleeve to protect it in a 3 ring binder notebook. In our classroom, the Freebee are extra techniques taught for the benefit of the student, but are not required techniques for advancement. For the level of Black Belt, the student (in class or distance learner) is required to know a number of the Freebee Techniques.
Instructor / School Certification will also be available to Distance Learners to facilitate them opening their own school, and for use of the Dark Dragon Kenpo name / logo.

FAQ's:
Q. How long will it take me to go through the Basics thru Green Belt program?
A: Each student is different. Some have prior experience, or some have more time to practice, so there is no usual amount of time.
Q. Is there a time limit to completing the program?
A. No, there is no time limit. You can progress as slowly or quickly as you can demonstrate your knowledge of the material.
Q. Can I buy the brown and black belt tapes now when I buy the Basics thru Green Belt tapes?
A. No, because we want to review your progress thru Green belt before you progress to the advanced belt levels.
Q. Do I have to train with someone else to do the program?
A. It is not absolutely necessary, but it is the best way to learn the techniques. It is the recommended way to train to get the most out of your training.
Q. If I buy the course of if someone else splits the cost with me, like a friend or family member, can they take the program too?
A. Yes, they will pay a test fee for their tests, but they can do the course with you. They also will have to submit a video of them completing the material just like you have to do. Information on how to do this and the test fees are sent with the course material.
Q. If I buy the tapes, does that make me part of your organization?
A. We are not a Kenpo organization per se, we are a school of a hybrid version of Kenpo and as such, you are a part of our school. Our school is more like a family in that we teach and learn from each other. So, yes, in that way, you are a part of that family.
Q. If I take your course, could I come to Florida and train sometime with your class? Could I test there too?
A. Yes, we would love to have you there and that would allow us to help you to fine tune your techniques even more!!! Yes, you could take your black belt test here, although the travel expenses would be your responsibility. It may be cost prohibitive to takes any of you other tests here, but we would certainly try to accommodate you.
Q. Have you considered having a chat room on your site for the students to discuss their training and ask questions?
A. Yes, we are looking into doing that at the present time.
Q. Are you going to have the course on DVD?
A. Yes, it is now available for purchase.
Q. Will I be able to progress past 1st degree black belt in your program?
A. Yes, at the present time we have material thru 7th degree black belt. We are basing our system on continued study and learning rather than the "buddy" system where an instructor subjectively decides on who he is going to promote and who he is not. Ours is based on Mr. Parker's saying, " It is not how long you have been in it, but how long you have been at it." As long as you are still training and learning the new material, then you can progress. We feel that the "buddy" system has no place in the arts and we have seen the results of that type of promotion system.
Q. Are the t-shirts you offer for sale, the same ones worn in your class?
A. Yes, they are the same shirts that we wear in our class.
Q. I just want to make sure I understand how this works. After I think that I have learned the material to Green Belt, then I send in a video of myself performing the basics and the techniques? The video should be of me doing the techniques on someone? Can I send in my video test for each belt level instead of at the end of the Green belt?
A. Yes, you do send in a video of yourself and with a partner who does not have to know the techniques, just has to be a willing participant to allow you to demonstrate what you have learned. Also yes, if you would be more comfortable sending in each belt level test, we are happy to accommodate you.
Q. I have seen some other courses that seem like they may be cheaper to buy. I have also seen some that are a lot more expensive. What gives?
A. You will probably find that the cheaper courses have a test fee for each belt level that you have to pay and in some cases, a very high price to take your Black Belt Test. In Dark Dragon Kenpo, there are no test fees until the Black Belt Test and then there will be a test fee for each of the degrees of Black which is the same fee as the 1st degree Black Belt test fee. If you add up those test fees with the price of the course, I think you will find that ours is the better value in that regard. The next question then would be if that course or our course is the one for you. Then you make your choice. As far as more expensive courses, then you have to decide if what you are getting is worth the price as in any purchase you make.
Q. I have studied American Kenpo before, will you recognize my rank in that system? Also, is this course strictly American Kenpo and do you offer the forms on any tapes if I wanted to learn those?
A. No, unfortunately, we cannot recognize the rank as some of our techniques are not American Kenpo, although most are. Thus, there would be some that you did not know. In addition, Mr. Parker, by design, taught the same technique differently to his students who in turn teach it that way or with their own spin on the technique. As a result, the technique might have slight variations. Realistically, the belt does not make the martial artist, the practice and discipline to learn and practice is what makes the most difference. As to the forms, no we do not teach them nor do we offer them in any way. Our system is based on practical street defense and we would rather spend our time devoted to practicing with people rather than in the air. It is a matter of a difference in philosophy. It is not that I am against forms for those who enjoy them for whatever their personal reason. For Dark Dragon Kenpo, we want to practice with people and with the techniques that we are depending on to help us to learn to be spontaneous.
Q. I have researched some of the other variants of Kenpo and notice that many have a lot more techniques that have to be learned than your system. Am I learning less by doing your system?
A. No, you are not learning less. Some of the Kenpo systems try to make you be or learn how to be spontaneous by seemingly providing all of the answers for you. Instead, we believe that if the system is taught properly, then the individual will learn spontaneity themselves and thus know the answers. We don't feel, for example, that we have to teach you a technique utilizing a punch and then teach you the same technique substituting a palm heal strike in order to teach you how to be spontaneous. In our opinion, teaching in this way of providing so many variations, that the student actually becomes confused and befuddled even to the point of frustrated by trying to remember too much instead of just learning how to let his/her body move instinctually. Learn the language of motion and thus the right tools and the rest will work for you. Mr. Parker likened his system to a language....a language of motion. Try learning a foreign language and speaking it so mechanically, you will soon learn that you communication is not as affective as just speaking more relaxed using the terms you know.
Imagine going on a dance floor and try to robotically move like someone has shown you, then trying to substitute moving one way with a different foot position. You loose the ability to go with the beat and tune that comes naturally to you and you'd feel ridiculous trying.
The ultimate goal of any art as we have stated before is to know what to do when. That is what we are after.
